VIDEO EDITING REFLECTION

 Video editing Reflection

Learning the Premiere Pro software was a long journey. When I first opened up the software, it was very intimidating because of all the different features, and personally, I thought I would never be able to understand it. I first attempted to use the software for a TV production class and failed miserably. It was because of that, I browsed YouTube for tutorials on how to use it. Though these did help, I wasn't very good at retaining the information I watched.  However, when watching AND editing along with the videos my Media Studies teacher linked for the class, I quickly got the hang of it.

To begin the process of creating a clip, I first had to ensure that all the raw materials and practice projects were organized. As you can see below, I created different files for the raw footage and other exports.

Then, I had to import them into Premiere Pro and create different sequences, graphics, and color corrections. Creating the sequence of how I want the videos to be organized was quite challenging. This was because I had to make sure that the flow of the film, as a whole, made sense and wasn't choppy. I wasn't able to get that just right until the very end of the project when I made my revisions.

Another challenge that I faced was that the version of the software that I used was slightly different than the version that the man in the tutorials had. This made some of the things he did very confusing to me because my version was able to do it. For example, when creating the Lower Thirds, the feature of creating a background shape for the text wasn't available to me. Thankfully, he proposed another way of having text with a background that I was able to do.

Throughout the entire process of creating the clip, I learned a few valuable lessons. This included practicing how to compromise and use problem-solving skills. An example of me compromising would be when I realized my version of the app was different. I had to decipher what would be the most beneficial route to create this clip so that I would be able to make it look good while having limited features.

Learning these different techniques and life skills may prove to be very helpful in the near future. When specifically referring to the techniques I learned from the editing software, they might help me when creating short films in TV Production class and in the end-of-year tests for this class. On the other hand, problem-solving skills are beneficial for every aspect of life, especially in my educational career.

I believe that this short exercise will help a lot when I'm doing my portfolio project because it can help ensure my film will look more professional and well put together.

Creative Critical Reflection

After long anticipation, I've finally finished my CCRs. They took lots of work, but I'm very pleased with the way they all came out!...
